THE COMPANY

A European aeronautical manufacturer created in 1970, Airbus is an international benchmark in the aeronautics and space sector. Their activities range from the design of devices to their supply, through the production and assembly of parts.

The daily grinding and adjustment operations before assembly generate numerous inhalable and explosive particles.

THE DUST EXTRACTION PROBLEM

Chromium VI (= hexavalent) is an extremely toxic product, classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic, which can be accumulated in the liver, kidneys, thyroid gland and bone marrow. It causes among others, respiratory disorders, inflammations of the mucous membranes, lung and sinus cancers. 

For Airbus, the objective was therefore to fight against occupational diseases and the risk of explosion due to dust generated on an aeronautical sub-assembly production line by the installation of several suction stations.

These stations had to meet very precise specifications, among others:

• having the smallest possible dimension and weight (which has led to the development of the smallest model in our range),
• guaranteeing optimal capture of CMR dust due to high air speeds,
• being ergonomic (adjustable in height, accessibility for right- and left-handers, mobility and lighting), 
• minimising the costs of consumables,
• discharging indoor air,
• being ATEX.

After the creation and validation of a prototype, we delivered several tailor-made downdraft tables including:

• a motorised system for adjusting the working height,
• tool storage,
• powerful, shadowless lighting,
• double-stage filtration with pneumatic cleaning and H14 filtration, 
• the most compact dimensions (1.2 x 0.95 m on the floor) ever made by STIVENT INDUSTRIE^®  for a cartridge filtration table.
